UNIT COLD SHUT DOWN BECAUSE OF THE FLAW IN PIPELINE OF THE PRIMARY MAIN COOLANT PUMP

On December 3, 1995 an increase in radioactivity was detected inside the containment. The visual examination did not reveal the source of the increasing activity. The more careful inspection showed the flaw with diameter 50 mm in the pipeline of autonomous circuit of the primary main coolant pump.
On December 4, 1995 at 12:15 the unit was put into cold shutdown for the failed pipeline maintenance. On completion of the maintenance the Unit was re-connected to the grid.
Justification:
According to Table 2 of the User's Manual, all the safety functions were found available, and the anticipated initiating event being the small diameter pipeline leak did not exert an adverse influence on safe reactor shutdown.
The event has been rated level "0".
