During a routine inspection, about 200 ml of liquid was observed on the building floor adjacent to a plutonium contamined waste drum. Chemical analysis of the liquid indicates a specific activity of 2.2 MBq/ml Beta. Two people received minor contamination of their hands while taking a sample of the liquid. They were successfully decontaminated. The quantity spilled is estimated to be 450 MBq of plutonium, radiologcally equivalent to 4500 GBq of ruthenium 106. (Please see also press release attached.)
