NO IMPACT TO SAFETY AFTER IGNITION OF THERMAL INSULATION OF A PIPE IN THE PRIMARY COOLANT SYSTEM

On 05 January 1992 at 11.25 a.m. during a planned inspection a smouldering of the thermal insulation of the suction pipe of the Main Coolant Pump no. 2 was discovered. The pipe has been heated up to 2300 deg. in compliance with the programme for the commissioning of Unit 5 after refuelling. The smouldering insulation was taken off and removed from the reactor containment without using antifire means.
The fire did not directly affect the operation of the plant. The safety systems were assessed against a potential initiator and were considered to be within operational limits and conditions.
