ERF description: A crack was found in the weld joint in safe end region in the 8" core spray line (loop-2). The core spray loop was deactivated, water level was lowered below core spray initiation level and the crack was weld repaired to stop the leak, then reactor level was again made up. This was done as per approved procedure with prior approval from Regulatory Body.

BASIS FOR RATING: Degradation of defence-in-depth. Deviation from authorized functional domains. As the deviation was done in a planned manner with approved procedure and approval, level 0 is given instead of level 1. Rating = 0.
DIFFICULTIES IN RATING: In the user's manual, level 1 is given for deviations from authorized functional domains. But no level is given for planned and approved deviations. In the present event one level below level 1 is given.
