The world is in a mess. We are lumbered with a system which has created the horrors of pollution, war, poverty, exploitation, hunger and many other forms of oppression. The people who come to the open meetings of London Greenpeace each week share a concern for the way our lives and environment are being destroyed, and a determination to understand and publicise this situation. Many opposition movements are developing, such as the ecological, anti-war, animal liberation and anarchist/libertarian movements, which we are involved in and are trying to learn from. We encourage people to think and act independently, to try to discover the underlying causes of oppression and to aim for their abolition through social revolution. In this struggle we try to develop new, libertarian ways of organising and relating to each other and also, in the way we act, work towards creating a new society. This pamphlet is one of a series we are producing. We have factsheets available on pollution, pesticides, chemical and biological warfare, and the struggle of the Sami people in the north of Norway against a hydro-electric power project. This one we feel is particularly necessary as it makes connections between the animal rights and nuclear issues. (We are also preparing a pamphlet looking at all aspects of technology.) These alternatives help us to develop a realistic vision of possibilitiesfor a future harmonious world. More than anything else it seems we need to awakenthis vision in order to be able to confidently challenge the roots of the present disastrous set-up. We hope this pamphlet makes a contribution.
