Hintergrund 
Die Initiatoren der KONTEC Symposiumreihe haben mit der Startveranstaltung 
KONTEC '93 eine Einrichtung geschaffen, die Betriebsfachleute, Anlagenhersteller 
und Dienstleister sowie Gutachter und Behördenvertreter zum Erfahrungsaustausch
regelmäßig zusammenbringen soll. Schon die KONTEC '93 hat gezeigt, daß nicht nur 
eine Idee, sondern auch ein konkreter Bedarf vorhanden war. Die Entwicklung der 
KONTEC Symposiumreihe, 1995 die Erweiterung der KONTEC '95 als 
internationales Symposium und 1997 die thematische Erweiterung auf den Bereich 
der Stillegung, haben die KONTEC zu einem wichtigen Ort der Information und des 
Erfahrungsaustausches für die Fachleute der Branche gemacht. Damit leistet das 
Symposium KONTEC einen wertvollen Beitrag zur Lösung der anstehenden 
Aufgaben bei der Konditionierung radioaktiver Betriebs- und Stillegungsabfälle. Wie 
auch 1997 erwarten wir zur KONTEC '99 ca. 500 Teilnehmer aus dem In- und Ausland.

Background 
With the starting event KONTEC '93, the initiators of the KONTEC symposium 
series have created an institution which should regularly bring together power plant 
operating experts, equipment manufacturing experts and service people as we" as 
expert witnesses and authorities representatives for exchange of experiences. The 
KONTEC '93 already showed that there is not only an idea but even a definite need. 
The KONTEC symposium series development, in 1995 the enlargement of the 
KONTEC '95 as an international symposia and in 1997 the topic enlargement to the 
field of decommissioning, have made the KONTEC an important place of information 
and exchange of experiences for the experts of this branch of industry. Consequently, 
the KONTEC symposia make a valuable contribution to the solution of the problems 
with the conditioning of radioactive operational and decommissioning wastes. As 
already in 1997, approximately 500 international participants are expected for the 
KONTEC '99.
