From the publication:
Introduction In 1998 the business activities of KEMA and ECN in the nuclear fields were combined in a joint venture, the Nuclear Research & Consultancy Group vof (NRG). Through this combination of the largely complementary expertise of KEMA and ECN an all-round provider of nuclear R&D services has been created. NRG, in which ECN participates for 70 percent and KEMA for 30 percent, has about 280 employees based in Petten and Arnhem. NRG expects to be able to strengthen its position on the international market. After an evaluation by the Dutch anti-trust authorities and after approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs the formal establishment of NRG took place on October 1, 1998. This was immediately followed by a strategic evaluation of the R&D programme. The outcome of this evaluation largely confirmed that NRG should give priority to the development of new, safe reactor concepts, and to the reduction of the quantity and life span of nuclear waste. The board has noted to its satisfaction that all employees were prepared to take up the challenge. This activities report gives some highlights of the year 1998. The financial and other data are Consolidated for the whole fiscal year 1998.
