Boezeman 0546275 Bachelorthesis Supervisor: Jaap Gersie Social and Political Sciences of the Environment Nijmegen School of Management Radboud University Nijmegen 2007 Abstract This thesis examines how the dynamics and stability of a policy arrangement can influence the direction of policy. The case on which this thesis focuses is the arrangement around nuclear power plant Borssele in the Netherlands. This thesis will show that the arrangement faces dynamics in each of the dimensions. It shows that the arrangement faced a period of instability when actors became aware that the legal position of the owners of the facility was stronger than anticipated. Combined with a discursive climate in which global warming and energy policy increased in attention, this led to an abandonment of the political agreement to close the facility in 2013 and extend its lifespan to 2033. Preface In front of you lies the report written to complete a year of obligations to enter the masters degree programme of Social and Political Sciences of the Environment at the Radboud University Nijmegen. The process took longer as I hoped when starting the project early 2006. Due to different circumstances the final version took some extra time. After writing two theses in another academic field a hard deadline still seems to remain difficult. Lets see whether the last deadline of the master thesis will prove I learned.
